The course will detail all of the activities of daily living;
Covering mobility i.e. getting out of bed and moving around the home.
Personal hygiene i.e. bathing, showering, getting dressed, oral hygiene, hair care, grooming, shaving and foot care.
Looking at sensory aids glasses, hearing aids and mobility aids.
Continence and using the toilet. Medical assistance i.e. help with a stoma or administering medication. Additionally If caring for a service user in their own home it could include;
Food i.e. preparing ingredients, cooking meals and help with eating and shopping.
Housekeeping i.e. cleaning, washing up and laundry needs.
What You’ll Learn
How to best support your service user; tailoring care to their personal preference, making the care as person centred as possible. Ensuring that the person is able to present themselves as they wish and enable where possible a good social life ; maybe attending weekly social groups; choirs or church for e.g. it’s important to have a sense of belonging. If you work in a care home setting there is normally a programme of planned activity’s to keep the mind engaged, things like crosswords, jigsaws, board games, quizzes, bingo and dominoes may all stimulate the mind and engage conversation.
