How did I begin my my career in care?
I began working as a receptionist for Eastgate Care in April 2010. Soon after this helping out by also training as a care assistant ; the opportunity of promotion arose and I moved to our head office working closely with our HR and Operations director’s; supporting all four homes in the group as HR administrator and peripatetic receptionist across 4 homes.
Whilst based at the head office our training manager retired and our Ops director Sue stepped in to pick up the role; feeling stretched she needed help and that's where I begin my training journey.
Initially I completed a train the trainer course for moving and handling; as time progressed I delivered more and more topics and really enjoyed the role, during this time I also studied for my level 5 qualification in health and social care.
From Manager to Aspiring Teacher
The company were building a new care home in my local area after this I became the care homes manager but really did miss delivering the training.
I made the decision to change roles and train freelance for a while; during this time I could see the potential of beginning my own business but I wanted to gain the qualifications not only around the subject knowledge but how to best deliver them in a teaching capacity, this was around 8 years ago.
After my freelance training I became a regional trainer for Brighterkind group for just over 3 years; progressing to training manager for Lovett Care group for 3.5 years.
My first qualification supporting the how to deliver was my A.E.T (award in education and training); I enjoyed this so much that I studied for my PGCE (postgraduate certificate in education); my next qualification aim will be to gain my QTS (qualified teacher status)
More recently completing my CHAPS training (care home assistant practitioner).
At the age of 51 I am a big believer in further education and have personally returned to college myself to complete my GCSE English and Maths and gain the grade I need to go on and complete the QTS as mentioned above.
